MoodFlix

Designing a mobile app that recommends movies base on user’s mood.

In this case, I explored how emotional context can improve content discovery and reduce decision fatique on users.

THE SOLUTION

MoodFlix is a mood/base recommendation experiencewhere users select how they feel, amd the app translates that empotional input into personalized movie suggestions, helping them quickly find content that matches their mindset.

Besides the common film indutry references, I also search outside the sector, diggin into Moodtrackers apps to understand how mood input from the users has been done.

PRODUCT VISION

MoodFlix is designed to evoque how fluid emotions are. Empathising with the user about how difficult it is the emotional journey of self-awareness. Like getting to understand one´s mood state.

Two palettes were choosen in this project: one for the app´s UI, and 5 pastel colors to relate emotions states with.

MoodFlix is designed having into account the posible risks might inccounter. Like the users who don´t want to filter by Mood -or shared with the app-; or that the recommendation algorithm may not provide accurate recommendations.

Users may be unwilling to share their mood with the application.

USERS WILLINGNESS

Enabling selecting movies by recommended lists or by genre, besides mood filtering

PRODUCT VISION

Iconography selected to associate Moods

Insted of using emoticons to enable user filter by one´s mood, I decided to conceptualize the idea of the variability and flexibility of one´s emotional state with weather´s varibility.

Later on, this idea became the branding seed of the project.
